Day of Family, Love And Fidelity

On the 8th of July, 2008 a new holiday “Day of Family, Love and Fidelity” was celebrated in Russia for the first time. The date of celebration is not accidental. In Orthodox Church it is the SS blessed Prince and Princess Peter and Fevronia of Murom Day, who were an example of true and mutual love and fidelity.

According to the legend the blessed Prince Peter, who ascended the throne of Murom in 1203, suffered from leprosy. His painful ailment did not respond to any treatment but once the Prince had such a dream: he could be cured by a maiden named Fevronia who was the daughter of a “wood creeper” forest beekeeper from Laskovaya village in Ryazan region. Then it happened so that they were persecuted and went into convent in the decline of their years. While being alive Peter and Fevronia became an example of marital fidelity, mutual love and family happiness.
